I was speaking with a friend today who is also in the wedding business. She began marketing her business by placing ads on one of the popular wedding sites on the Internet. She was only one of 15 local vendors in her area of expertise and had started to see her investment pay.

A few months ago, this wedding site had a booth at a convention she attended. They were offering special deals to people who signed up for a year so she went ahead and did it. So did a lot of other people. She now has upwards of 90 other professionals vying for the attention of local brides and has not yet received any additional referrals from this site.

Thoroughly investigate any opportunities you are offered for advertising and be careful not to tie up valuable marketing dollars in long-term contracts.
