Become a Top Wedding Planner – 5 Mistakes New Wedding Planners Make at Bridal Shows… And How You Can Avoid Them

As a new wedding planner, you need to consider many different ways to market your services. One way is a bridal show, also known as a bridal fair, wedding fair, wedding expo and wedding fayre. But if you have never had any experience as an exhibitor, it can be easy to not get much return for the time and money you invest.

Here are 5 mistakes new wedding planners often make when they do their first bridal shows:

Mistake #1 – They don’t select the correct shows

It can be very appealing to be in the biggest, glossiest bridal show in town but unless you have done some research, it’s hard to know if it would bring you the brides in your niche who want your services.

Mistake #2 – They think all they need to do is show up on the day of the show

Capturing leads at a show requires planning. It’s best to have a marketing system in place before the event.

Mistake #3 – They think it is all about the decoration

The decor attracts and brings in brides, but you have to be outgoing and have a way of marketing to brides and capturing their information, or you are wasting your time.

Mistake #4 – They don’t look professional

There is a saying, “how you do anything, is how you do everything.” You, you staff, your booth and your marketing materials are examples of the quality of service and professionalism of your business. Make sure you give a good impression to attendees.

Mistake #5 – They treat it as a one-shot deal

You don’t want to just throw out your leads and contact information after a show and move on to the next one. You should have follow up plans in the marketing system you created before the show. Brides don’t always decide they need a planner until long after a show has passed.
