Become a Top Wedding Planner – 5 Tips for Managing All of Your Money Making Ideas

Some new wedding planners whom I’ve spoken to recently not only want to offer their wedding planning services but also want to teach classes to engaged couples, write and sell books aimed at helping brides, and make and sell wedding favors and accessories. They have a lot of great ideas to add value to their businesses and want to move forward but are overwhelmed and stuck.

If you also have a lot of great ideas for your business, these 5 tips will help you manage them:

1) Capture all of your ideas

Trying to keep them in your head will distract you and add to your feeling of overwhelm.  Get a notebook and write them down, keep a list in a document on your computer or record them in a digital recorder for review later.

2) Take time to think about them

Don’t take action on everything all at once or you may end up with a lot of unfinished projects. Take the time to evaluate your ideas and do some resarch first to see if they would really bring you the business you want.

3) Select the ones that you are most passionate about

Don’t select ideas that you think will work but don’t excite you. If you don’t feel passionate about your ideas, you won’t be successful. For example if you have the idea to give training and presentations about wedding planning but actually hate public speaking, it probably won’t work for you.

4) Set time limits

Don’t work on an idea indefinitely. If a project isn’t coming together and you are finding yourself spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to make it work, it might be time to shelve the project and return to it at another time. For example, if you want to create a line of wedding accessories but are spending hours each day trying to figure out how to best package and market them, you might want to set it aside for now and return when you have a fresher perspective.

5) Keep focused on your core business

Remember you are in the business of planning weddings and, if you are new, may still need to spend time perfecting your wedding planning skills. There is nothing wrong with adding other types of services and products but don’t let them take a lot of time and energy away from what you really do.
