Become a Top Wedding Planner – Be Invaluable by Learning New Creative Skills

You don’t become a top wedding planner with organizational skills alone, you have to bring creativity to what you do.  If you study the biographies of successful wedding planners you’ll see that they spent some part of their lives in creative fields such as floral design, catering, fashion and interior design.

Here’s some things you should know in each area and how the information will help you:

Floral Design – Learn about the different styles wedding floral arrangements, the elements of good design, how bouquets and arrangements are put together and how to keep them fresh.  This information will assist you in selecting top quality florists and floral designers for your vendor network and you’ll be able to help the bride make the best selections.

Catering – Knowing what types of food work for guests with varying tastes, the quantities needed for large numbers of people, kitchen health standards and food trends will make you invaluable when the bride goes to select her menu.  You will be able to suggest ideas that help her trim her reception budget without looking cheap.

Fashion and Interior Design – Having a good sense of color and style in fashion and interiors is important when helping the bride select her gown, bridesmaids’ dresses, linens, theme and reception decor.  As far as fashion goes, you should also need to know how to do some basic sewing for last minute repairs in the changing room.

Check local adult education programs and community colleges for classes in these areas.  Who knows, you may discover something you love as much as wedding planning and create a niche for yourself with your new area of expertise.

    Hi Sharon!

What a wonderful service you are providing! I admire people who are willing to mentor others. Too many professonals don’t share their experiences and information. I have found that the blessings one receives in return are heaped up and overflowing! :0)

This blog is great for those of us who are not so new to the business, too. No one person knows all there is to know. There is always something new to learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

    Hi Pam,

Thank you for your kind words. I struggled so much, I don’t want others to have go through what I did.

I invite you to be a guest writer on my blog if you are interested in sharing some experience you have had that might others.

    Thanks again,

    Sharon
