Become a Top Wedding Planner – Business Lessons from TLC’s “Homemade Millionaire”

TLC’s new reality show, “Homemade Millionaire,” features female entrepreneurs competing for their products to be featured on HSN (Home Shopping Network) and offers lessons that we, as wedding planners, can learn from even though we are selling services.

In the show’s premire, three women with beauty product inventions were put through different challenges to prepare them to meet with executives at HSN. Here are 3 things they learned in their challenges that might help you during a presentation at a bridal show, business networking event or one-on-one with a bride:

1) State the problem then explain how you are the solution

A problem your bride might be having is finding the right venue. You would explain that she would not need to spend her time running from one venue to another trying to find a location. You can find venues for her based on her budget, desired location, style, theme and number of guests.

2) Exude confidence

The bride needs to feel comfortable that you will know what you are doing when you plan her wedding. Demonstrate your knowledge, be prepared to answer questions about your services.

3) Don’t just do a sales pitch

Work on creating rapport. Remember that people buy from people they like and trust.

The show stars actress and talk show host Kelly Ripa and features Wendy Robbins as the contestants’ business coach. You can find Wendy’s tips for entrepreneurs on the TLC website.
