Whiteboard Your Wedding Planing Business Goals

We’re 3 weeks into the New Year. How are you doing with the goals you set for your wedding planning business for 2010? I recently read that a lot of people give up on their goals 2 weeks into the year.

I was talking about this with a successful financial planner, she said she learned a few secrets for attaining goals that can help people in all professions:

  • Break large goals down and into small daily goals and list actions you can take in a day that lead you towards accomplishing them.
  • Write the daily goals and actions on a whiteboard or piece of paper where you can see them as you work. With goals and plans staring at you all day, it becomes very clear how you need to spend your time.
  • Block time out on your schedule to get work accomplished. For instance, if you plan to spend the morning marketing, determine exactly what you will do and what time you will do it: “Write a blog post and use ping.fm to send it out to all of my social media sites – 8am to 9am”. “Update my Facebook Fan Page with my YouTube videos 9am to 9:30am”. “Answer email 9:30am to 10:30am”, etc. Then don’t go back and do those things until you have time blocked out on your calendar again for them later. Too much time is wasted jumping from one task to another, it makes you have to stop and refocus.

Don’t ditch your goals, it is early in the year. Take them out, break them into small, doable daily goals and actions, and schedule time to get them done so you can have the success you want this year.
