Become a Top Wedding Planner – Giving Link Love? Make Sure Brides Return to Your Site

I’ve noticed that many wedding planners share links to sites of other vendors in their websites and blog posts. That’s great, nothing wrong with referring readers to other vendors in your network or to resources for information, I do it all of the time. But you want to be sure brides return to your site to read about you when they are done with the linked site.

For example, if you go to my namesake site by clicking on www.sharonhill.com, a new browser window will open. When you are done with that site and close it, you return to this blog.

Your webmaster can arrange it so links to other sites open in new browser windows.

If you know some html, the code would look like this:

<a href=”http://www.theothersite.com” target=”_blank”>The Other Site </a>

If you are working on a self-hosted WordPress site, like this one, clicking on the link icon gives you a box that looks like this:

All you have to do is:

  • Fill in the “Link URL” for the site you are linking to
  • Select “Open in new window (_blank)” in the drop down menu
  • Click the  “Insert” button

The link will now open in a new window and readers will automatically return to your site when they are done looking at the other one.

If you have a Blogger blog, follow the easy instructions on Highball Blog.

Bringing brides back to your website and blog will give them the opportunity to spend more time reading your sites and recognizing you as the expert and “go to” person for everything about weddings.
