Become a Top Wedding Planner – Help Your Bride Choose an Unforgettable Menu

When working with a bride and her caterer to select the menu, follow these tips from celebrity wedding planner David Tutera. He shared these in his column in the January/February 2011 issue of Bridal Guide magazine:

1) Incorporate foods that have meaning or are special to the bride and groom

For example, favorite childhood foods or foods from a favorite holiday. He did a Thanksgiving-style menu for a couple who loved Thanksgiving. The couple can explain their selections on printed menus.

2) If the bride and groom are from different cultures, honor them in the menu

David suggests having two buffets, each dedicated to one culture.

3) Make the menu visually appealing

Incorporate color into the menu that coordinates with the color scheme of the wedding. For example, David served purple ravioli at a lavender and purple themed wedding.

4) Use specialty and signature drinks to provide color and coordinate with the theme and style of a wedding

His examples – rose-colored martinis at a pink wedding and red sangrias at an Italian wedding.

5) Arrange a tasting for the bride and groom

It is  important that the couple know how their food tastes before they have it served at their wedding so make sure you work with the caterer to arrange an appointment.

Read the magazine for more of his advice on menu selection.
