Become a Top Wedding Planner – Reception Ideas From a Top Planner

Chelsea Clinton’s wedding planner, Bryan Rafanelli, shared some ideas for creating custom wedding receptions in the January 2011 issue of Brides magazine.

Here are 3 ideas that might help you when you work with your brides:

1) Get the bride to focus

The bride might be tempted to incorporate many different interests and elements of design into her reception. Work with her to determine what would best represent her personality and that of her groom. (Remember that some interests can be represented with food, not design. A groom’s cake could be in the design of the groom’s favorite hobby. The menu can be the food from their favorite city or place where they met.)

2) Use creativity to save money

Don’t ignore an idea because it is pricey, find a way to incorporate it in a less expensive manner. Rafanelli used the example of a a bride who loves the circus. Instead of hiring acrobats, he suggested designing a menu to look like a souvenir program and serving popcorn and cotton candy after dinner.

3) Consider unique wedding venues

Libraries (remember Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big in Sex in the City, The Movie), zoos and museums often have event spaces that can be used for weddings. In addition, check out historic homes, planetariums, theaters, stadiums and cruise ships. Get more ideas on unique venues from my previous blog post. Visit some unique venues in your area so you can recommend them to brides who are looking for something different.
