Become a Top Wedding Planner – Wedding Planning Lessons from TLC’s “Four Weddings”

On tonight’s episode of the TLC show “Four Weddings,” the show in which four brides, who are strangers, agree to attend and judge each other’s weddings to win a dream honeymoon, the guest brides found many things they liked and disliked and their insights might help you give your brides’ guests better wedding experiences:

1) Sweets were always a big hit

The brides loved the dessert bar, dessert buffet and candy bar. They particularly enjoyed chocolate fountains and a make-it-yourself s’mores station that featured a small campfire.

2) The Halloween theme didn’t appeal to everyone

One bride loved Halloween so it was natural for her to use the holiday as the theme for her wedding. The other brides weren’t Halloween lovers but felt the bride carried out the theme well in her decor. The major thing they didn’t like was that the bride allowed guests to dress in costume, which they felt took attention away from the bride and groom.

3) There is such a thing as “too much” or “too big”

Weddings with more than 250 people can make guests feel overwhelmed. The brides felt that a large crowd made weddings feel impersonal.

4) They didn’t like to wait

One bride started her wedding over a half an hour late. (Guests don’t appreciate it when a wedding doesn’t start on time so make sure you are there to get everyone on track. Once the ceremony is late, everything else will be late also.)

Another bride made guests wait in one line after another, a reception line, drink line, cocktail line and dinner line, all of which was very unappealing to the guest brides. They especially didn’t like it when they got to the food tables and found most of the food was gone. (Ideally, have the catering staff serve food to keep the lines moving and assist with portion control. Pass some hor’s deouvers and have servers mingle with drinks while people wait in line. Try to set up self-serve buffet tables so guests can pick up food from both sides of the table.)

5) They appreciated music and dancing

They liked great music and dancing in a club atmosphere. (Guests like to have fun and be entertained.)
