I didn’t start accepting credit cards until I added retail products to my event planning services. I found out that my clients appreciated the convenience of paying by cards, especially the ones who got mileage points when they paid for their events.

If you want to do this, contact your business checking account bank first. I researched a number of credit card processing companies and my bank charged me the lowest fees because I had already had a history with them. Fees can run from 1 to 4 percent of your sales and there are transaction and monthly fees. You may also need to rent or purchase a credit card terminal and printer so compare prices on those items also. You will find however that taking credit cards will help you sell more products and services so any costs you incur will be worth it.
